Sounds scary. More reason to stay away from Atlanta.
What's going to happen is people will have to get off at the stations before 5 Points hop on a shuttle bus to continue to next station after 5points whatever line..
It's only 18 months not 4 years and you go to garnett station its the same as new year eve
Marta already single track during the weekend, what a pickle 🥒 this gonna be now. Alone with the buses running later on a weekend schedule...
The first bit of Marta including this station took 4 years to build, this is ridiculous
Boycott MARTA. See if that opens their eyes
We didn't need an upgrade at Five Points station. What we need is new trains and buses that keep breaking down every single day. If you are going to upgrade Five Points...then upgrade the rest of the stations like Decatur because those paintings been on that wall every since I was little and im 43 now.
So all you can do at 5 points is transfer between the north south and east west lines. Cannot enter or exit. Cannot use the bus. For four long years. See if other transit lines pull this stunt.
Im convinced most government leaders are incompetent
MARTA CEO is just fine with closing Five Points for 4 years #Atlanta #atlpol Video: ua-cam.com/video/OLH_baqU9xE/v-deo.htmlsi=ZnhACnDDEMS0HuDL
Thank you for the sitch on the Stitch.
Cool
A lot of great news! Hopefully the start-up village can help revitalize downtown without over-inflating prices. Glad to see affordable housing too!
Looks great lets build more ! 👍

ATL! stand up
Awww! Thank you so much for saving my auntie’s life. She is amazing inside, outside and all around. She’s a blessing to everyone she comes in contact with.
Thank you for integrating some of my footage into this beautifully produced video!

I feel like the Midtown connector project might be more useful at this point. I agree that the separation of downtown cause immense damage to communities, but ga tech college students are more likely to use the greenspace, and access to the growing west Midtown area is more important in modern atlanta. Hopefully, both projects can get done. You can never have enough greenspace. I am still concerned about that much traffic being underground and the health concerns, though. Might be cheaper to just dirt over the interstate and force people to use public transportation built in place of it within in the city. Traffic outcomes might end up being better in the long term.
This money could be better spent (IMHO) by expanding MARTA from Bankhead to Howell Mill Road - that part of town could seriously benefit from a rail MARTA station
💯
I wonder if he could speak to the house of representatives and the senate in Washington D C.
Sweet now I can sit in traffic for 2 hours in a smelly tunnel.
How would they maintain the section of "capped" interstate? Like repaving and fixing potholes? What about all the exit ramps to get on or off the freeway? Perhaps a series of "green bridges" and new park space in between could suffice. It's too busy a thoroughfare to turn into this oasis
Ever been to Boston after the big dig? All their streets are under ground and no problems. Take a trip to Boston check it out for yourself. Atlanta big cover will work also. Plenty of cities have done this Dallas among others. This is not new
She's doing too much.. This could have been done much more professional
Now dedicate some of the lanes for rail and busses... baby you got a stew cooking!
How exactly will this help black people?
Jobs
@@Ch0sen1NE776 yeah right. Going to be majority Mexicans building this.
Never even been to Atlanta yet I'm still excited to see this happen
I love you Reene!!! This Nancy Williams .n
This is so exciting! I just read an article today sharing that The Stitch is not the only interstate capping project being floated for the city. The proposed Midtown Connector would stretch from 10th Street to North Avenue with a 25-acre park over the interstate, while the long-simmering park over Georgia 400 would provide new greenspace in Buckhead. Along with the $900,000 for The Stitch, the USDOT also awarded $16 million to the Atlanta BeltLine to continue buildout of the Southside Trail. What an exciting time!
I got here by following the AJC story on Ellex Swavoni's “What Sonia Said”, a phoenix bird. The sculpture is located in Beacon Municipal Center Plaza in Decatur, GA. "Atlantis Rising Ellex Swavoni (@ellex_swavoni) Foam, Polyurethane, and Steel The Afro-futuristic monument “Atlantis Rising” is inspired by the lost city of Atlantis. The shifting colors and design mirror iridescent, deep-sea creatures such as rainbow squid and comic book characters like Galactus. The mighty emerging of the robotic giant conveys power, mystery, and loom as if powerful forces are at play beneath our feet."
Yea right...we were told Atlantic Station would do all of this but now it's just another place for crime. Atlanta is a lost cause.
Not gonna lie, that would be really cool!
It’s already confirmed :)
Will the expensive project cause the rent to increase for low income households? Will a portion of that money help the homeless in Atlanta? Will the infrastructure and roads be repaired with any of that money? That is more concerning to me over this new greenspace.
I live in downtown ATL and the picture is NOT so rosy - City Hall is in desperate need of fresh ideas and new leadership - IMHO
This is propaganda, Downtown Atlanta is a ghost town full of unhoused people.
I proposed this same idea as a design project in architecture school back in 1989 when I lived in Atlanta. Let's hope it gets done. That area is a no man's land of unused and underutilized space in the heart of the city that has so much potential.
_Especially "the gulch" it's finally getting built up now._
Don’t like it! Why? I like the view of he city when your coming in to the city from the north on 75/85. It’s such a beautiful view of the city especially at night. I don’t want it to go away.
But think about it, now you can enjoy that same view for longer chilling at the new park or public spaces created by this project for longer than just driving in the city. They’re not getting rid of the view, but enhancing it.
@@Loud.Thoughts From my understanding the construction will cover the interstate which means it (the interstate) will run under the city from one end to the next. Therefore the only view you will see from the interstate while driving through the city is an under ground tunnel. Which in my opinion ruins the view of the city.
The area under the stich is already a patchwork of tunnels and would not impact the view you are referencing.
I like that view too, but it's not livable space. Plus, with the way people drive, I doubt many folks are looking at the view.
You were amazing and thank you for all the opportunities you gave me, I am forever grateful. Condolences to your family and God bless... Andrea A

Yes!

I would love to see this happen soon!
Great idea! Love it! This area is currently just a postapocalyptic wasteland. A asphalt supplier's dream. Midtown and Downtown might as well be in separate cities right now, with the interstate running right through it.
At 67, I would like to live to see this in the Atown.
